Serra Erie Blog

The word that best describes Saint Junipero Serra is "Zeal". It was a spirit that came from his deep prayer and dauntless will.

Alice Ferrick Ballentine, Mike Conley, and Mike Micsky welcomed into the Erie Serran Family!

Alice Ferrick Ballentine has been a devoted member of St. George for her entire life. Her commitment to the parish is evident through her active participation in various ministries. She assists in managing the liturgical monitors, serves as a Sacristan, and fulfills the important role of Eucharistic Minister. Through these responsibilities, Alice helps foster a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment for all parishioners.  In addition to her work at St. George, Alice currently holds the position of President of the St. Mark Seminary Auxiliary. Her leadership extends beyond the parish as she also participates actively in the Cursillo Movement, supporting faith development within the broader Catholic community.  Alice and her husband, Eric, have built a blended family that includes six children and one grandchild. Balancing her family life, Alice has maintained a longstanding career as a System Analyst at UPMC, where she has worked for over 21 years.  Vocations hold a special place in Alice's heart, as she recognizes how vital devoted priests are to the Church. She is passionate about supporting young men who are discerning their call to the priesthood. Alice believes that encouraging, praying for, and guiding these individuals is crucial to their growth. By nurturing their vocation, she helps ensure the lasting vitality of the Catholic community.

Since relocating to Erie in 2004, Mike Conley has been an active parishioner at St. George. During this time, Mike raised four loving daughters within the parish community, instilling in them the values and traditions that have been meaningful to the family.  Mike's service to the parish has taken many forms. Conley has contributed as a Sacristan, a Eucharistic Minister, and a Lector. Additionally, Conley leads a communion service at a nursing home and has served as past president of both the parish council and the St. George school board, supporting the parish’s spiritual and educational mission.  Mike is proud to be an original knight in the Roman Catholic Knight apostolate, through which Conley has received immeasurable spiritual support. This ministry has been a profound blessing in Conley's life.  Through involvement with St. George parish, Conley has developed lasting friendships with several priests from the Erie diocese. Conley is deeply grateful for the guidance and grace extended to the family throughout the years. Although Mike can never fully repay the debt owed for their impact on Conley's life and the lives of the daughters, Conley honors them by praying several times each day for increased vocations to the priesthood and to religious orders.  Mike has been retired for several years, having previously served as CEO of two U.K.-based companies.
